Someone once said that “the best music is the sound of people playing rock and they think they´ve got it, and they don't - but they do, but from a totally different angle than what people expect.”
Maschine Krank is rock music falling to pieces. Energetic hardcore pop with electronic noise bursting out between the jagged rythms and the on-your-toes (literally) vocals from singer Åsa A. The band name is broken German from when the bass player worked in a factory in southern Germany. The Polish workers used to mutter it under their breath when something broke down or didn´t match up, when something was nearly impossible to fix. In a way it sums up the bands views, both musically and politically.
Maschine Krank started in ´05 from the desire to be in a band that played noisy and fast. And to be in a band where making music is centered on having fun doing it. After playing for heaps of years in different bands all members felt the need to get back to music where your own expression and ideas rule. Where you can tinker with stuff the way you did when you started playing, years ago. And where the outcome doesn´t waver from the fact that it has something to say. Maschine Krank is united around the idea of playing music that takes itself seriously – but where the process of making it aims for the sense of playfulness (and what can you do with a drummer who shoots off ten jokes/thirty seconds – quantity jokes, one must be funny).
Guess it works, it´s still fun.
